Itinerary

Highlights of Edinburgh

Day 1

Arrive in Edinburgh, the world-famous capital of Scotland, and embark on a half-day, guided tour to discover this historic city. Visit famous attractions like the Grassmarket, Greyfriars Bobby, the Royal Mile, St. Giles Cathedral, and the Palace of Holyroodhouse, as well as highlights of Edinburgh’s New Town like the Georgian House, which offers a glimpse into 18th-century living.

After lunch at a local pub, spend the rest of the day at leisure and explore your hotel’s neighborhood.

Day 2

Meet your private guide for a delightful walking tour to the ancient Edinburgh Castle, seeing the bed where James VI was born and admiring the nation’s Crown Jewels, which include the Stone of Destiny — Scotland’s coronation stone. Visit Ocean Terminal to see the Royal Yacht Britannia where the Royal family entertained guests whilst abroad, followed by lunch and an afternoon of free time.

In the evening, enjoy a traditional Scottish dinner show filled with unforgettable local flavors and performances.

Day 3

The final day in Edinburgh takes you east of the city to take in the sights of the seaside town of St Andrews. Most famous for the university where the Royals William and Kate first met, other notable attractions include the 12th-century St. Andrews Cathedral, the ruined St. Andrews Castle, the Gothic St. Salvator’s Chapel, and St. Andrews Old Course.

Continue sightseeing with a visit to The Tower of Holy Trinity, the most historic church in St. Andrews and a Category ‘A’ listed building, before enjoying lunch at a local hotel. Return to Edinburgh and enjoy your final evening in the city at leisure.

Highlights of Inverness

Day 4

Travel over the Queensferry Crossing to the estates of Balmoral where the late Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth had her Scottish home and summer residence at Balmoral Castle. The estate was purchased by Queen Victoria in 1848 and belonged to the Royal Family ever since, overlooked by Lochnagar and covering 20,000 hectares of hills and woodland.

Visit a renowned distillery for a tour by the knowledgeable guides, seeing where raw ingredients are prepared for fermentation and the drink’s signature pear flavor is created. Sample the beautifully aged and crafted whiskies before enjoying lunch at the distillery’s restaurant.

Travel to Inverness in the Scottish Highlands and check into your hotel before spending the evening at leisure.

Day 5

Head towards Nairn to visit Cawdor Castle, built as a private fortress by the Thanes of Cawdor in the late 14th century and home to a legendary holly tree.

Enjoy lunch and time at leisure before visiting Culloden Battlefield where the last hand-to-hand battle was fought on British soil. The battlefield itself has been restored as it would have looked like on the fateful day it was marched on by the two sides.

Stroll along the Ness Islands before returning to Inverness for dinner at your hotel in the evening.

Highlights of Inverlochy

Day 6

Travel to the Clansman Harbor for a two-hour Jacobite Cruise to enjoy the stunning views of the surrounding mountains from the loch. Explore Urquhart Castle before returning to the harbor and then visit a historic, iconic distillery to enjoy a guided tour.

Up next, ride on the Nevis Range Gondola and enjoy spectacular views of Britain’s highest mountain. Travel over the Ballachulish bridge to Glencoe to enjoy the most mountain scenery and soak up the area’s history.

Check into your hotel in Glencoe and relax with an evening at leisure.

Day 7

Catch the Jacobite Steam Train after breakfast and travel 41 miles between Fort William and Mallaig, passing through an area of great scenic beauty, including alongside Loch Eil, Glenfinnan Viaduct, and Arisaig. This route is best known for being shown in the Harry Potter films as part of the journey of the Hogwarts Express.

On arrival in Mallaig, enjoy fish and chips for lunch. Return to your hotel for an evening at leisure.

Highlights of Loch Lomond

Day 8

Transfer to the charming seaside town of Oban, the unofficial capital of the West Highlands and a busy working port where fishing and pleasure craft rub shoulders in the harbor. Often described as the ‘Gateway to the Isles’, Oban is the main port for ferries departing to the Inner Hebrides.

Enjoy some free time in Oban to explore before heading to Loch Lomond; a loch renowned for its incredible beauty and tranquility as well as for being the largest freshwater loch in the United Kingdom.

Arrive at your hotel for your final two nights in Scotland. After checking in, enjoy time to explore before a delicious dinner.

Day 9

The last full day of the tour will be fully at leisure to ensure time to relax and refresh before returning home.

Day 10

Transfer to the airport for your departure from Scotland.

Royal Military Tattoo available during some departures. Inquire above for more details.
